What to expect at a session with Farnborough Voices.
Farnborough Voices is, and always will be, a place where everybody is welcome - is somewhere to come and be yourself, however weird and wonderful you are. Believe me, I will out weird the lot!
We want to be a place where there is no judgement, no ego, and as the Theme from Cheers reminds us, "where everybody knows your name." (Those of you too young to remember, that's the show where the Frasier came from. You're too young to remember Frasier too....? Ah jeez!)
As the newest choir in Farnborough, we recognise that you have choice of where you house your creativity, but what truly sets us apart as an incredible ensemble is not the focus on talent or performance or vocal range, but spotlights how each and every member uses the choir to support their emotional, mental and social wellbeing.
I'm not even asking members to sing if they don't want to, but I will always provide that space.
In each session, there will be a vocal warm up of tongue twisting scales, breathing focus and rhythm sections, naturally leading into songs that most members will know. We will work on each song, finding our comfortable place with it - you can either follow along using just the lyrics or the music will be provided too, allowing each member to pick the part most suitable for them.
We will look at breakout groups, should we end up being able to utilise the harmonies where each section will get to work on their 'part' whether improvised or following what is written and then we will always come back together to see where we get.
Eventually, I would love to be able to offer four part pieces, but for now, we will see where the path takes us for each song we sing.
The biggest thing to mention is that there will never be any pressure, and I mean that. We will get where we get, together.
(There will also be tea, coffee, cold drinks, tuckshop and most importantly - chocolate. I PROMISE I will always have chocolate).
